Maximo and Bartola The Aztec Children The pair were born in the late 1830's early 1840's. They were brought to the US in 1849 and were an instant sensation. They were billed as being part of a long lost tribe of ancient people, which at the time seemed fathomable. They were in fact merely mentally retarded microcephalics (small sloped heads) As a publicity stunt the pair were married in London in 1867.
